My sweet, sweet readers… well, the few of you that there are. Life has been hard lately, hasn’t it? In a world where everything seems to be upside down and life takes a turn for the worst, how do you stay sane? When you find the answer, let me know.
As for me? Your quirky Realtor has swung in a new direction and joined the art world—and what a world it is! I’ve recently stepped into the role of Gallery Coordinator, and my life has been nothing short of fascinating. It’s a shift from navigating the challenging, costly decisions of real estate to dealing with whimsical pieces of art.
Not to say I don’t cherish my days of being your go-to real estate agent, but have you ever been presented with an opportunity you just couldn’t refuse? Have you ever caught yourself pondering, “What if”? What if I took this job? How would that change things? Would I regret it if I said no? What keeps you in your current job? These are questions I’ve had to ask myself, and although I haven’t found all the answers, I did reach one conclusion—if I’m going to work until my last day, it better be in a job I love. Am I wrong to think so?
Sometimes, I hear the older generation labeling us, millennials, as lazy, entitled, or indecisive. But is it really that? Or is it possibly because we watched our parents age in jobs they didn’t love? We’re simply trying to craft a different narrative for ourselves in a world so vastly different from the one our parents knew—a world where nothing costs less than $5. We’ve found that chasing the dopamine is better than chasing the dollar, especially when happiness weighs more than gold.
Imagine this: one day you’re selling dream homes, the next you’re selling dreams painted on canvas. I’ve swapped ‘location, location, location’ for ‘texture, tone, and technique.’ Who knew that the leap from real estate to fine art would be like swapping stilettos for sneakers? Surprisingly comfy, but you’ll definitely twist an ankle if you’re not careful.
In the art gallery, every day is an adventure. Spending hours discussing whether a splash of red in a corner of a painting was passion or fury—turns out it was just tomato soup from the artist’s lunch. Along with convincing a couple that a blank canvas was not a mistake, but a minimalist masterpiece worth their investment. They bought it. Maybe they saw potential, or maybe they just wanted to make me stop talking. Either way, a win!
And let’s not forget the characters I meet. Artists whose creativity knows no bounds, each bringing their unique view of the world into tangible forms; collectors who think ‘Baroque’ is a new fitness trend; and kids who look at abstract art and say what we’re all thinking—“My five-year-old could do that.”
So, here I am, your not-so-ordinary Realtor turned Gallery Coordinator, wading through a sea of creativity and chaos. I’ve traded term sheets for artists portfolios and fact sheets on Dali and Picasso. And I’m loving every insane, bizarre, beautiful minute of it.
Stay tuned as I navigate this artful chaos. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even learn to tell the difference between abstract expressionism and a toddler’s temper tantrum on canvas. As I embark on this new chapter, ‘Home Sweet Habitat’ will also be taking a fresh direction. No longer confined to ‘where real estate meets the real world,’ this blog is evolving to focus on… well, me—and life, the struggles, and the hardships we all endure together in this ever-changing, crazy world. Here, I’ll share the colorful, often unexpected experiences of life, whether they happen within the hushed walls of an art gallery or the everyday moments that catch us by surprise. So, buckle up, dear readers—our journey together is about to get even more personal and vibrant!
Till next time Habitaters.
